Disaster Recovery Grants

The NSW Government is offering a Disaster Recovery Grant of up to $15,000 to primary producers, small business and not-for-profit organisations affected by the NSW bush fires.

Small Business Commission

The Small Business Commissioner has practical support available to all businesses affected by the NSW bush fires, from damaged or destroyed property to disrupted business and reduced income.

They have brought together all their available support in a concise and easy to access mini-hub that lists and links you and your small businesses to the available support.

Small business impact survey

The Small Business Commissioner wants to learn how the fires impact your small businesses.
They are conducting a survey to collect accurate data about the impacts of bush fires on small businesses across the state. All NSW small businesses who have been impacted by the NSW bush fires are encouraged to complete the survey.

The results of the survey will be used by Local and State Govt. to determine the business community’s need and advocate on their behalf to other levels of government / relevant agencies etc. It will also be used by REMPLAN (economists) who will analyse the data and provide Council a report capturing the economic impacts of the 2019/20 bush fires.

The information provided through the survey will be instrumental in determining the level of recovery support provided. The survey doesn’t take long to complete, and can be done online.

 

Small Business Recovery Toolkit

The NSW Small Business Commission has developed a range of resources to help small business owners recover from disasters, including:

These complement the NSW Government’s Get Ready Business - five step guide to preparing for disasters (2018), which helps business owners prepare for disaster in five simple steps.

Australian Government

The Australian Government is providing a Disaster Recovery Allowance to support people who lost income as a direct result of the bush fires in NSW from August 2019 – January 2020. You can claim a Disaster Recovery Allowance by:

  • visiting Centrelink location
  • calling Centrelink on 180 22 66 (8am – 8pm local time, Monday to Friday and 8am – 5pm Saturday and Sunday)
  • filling in the form on the Centrelink website.

Council assistance

Mayoral Reference Group for Business

The Mayoral Reference Group for Business is an existing forum of village and town Chambers of Commerce. The group will meet to develop an action plan to assist with business recovery in the coming weeks and continue to meet and work with local businesses over the coming months.

Business outreach program

Between 13 and 24 January 2020, Council’s Place Management and Economic Development Team are engaging with local, small and independent business owners to seek feedback on the economic and emotional impact bush fires have had on them and their business.

Love Local

Blue Mountains City Council has launched the 'Love Local' campaign, which urges residents to spend at least an extra $20 a week locally in 2020, to help the City recover after bush fires. The Love Local campaign, launched 13 January 2020, aims to recoup money lost to the local economy after visitors stayed away over the traditionally busy Christmas New Year period, due to bush fires in the upper Blue Mountains.

Blue Mountains City Council is one of the collaborators presenting this series of free events for local small businesses, to be held in Springwood, Katoomba and Picton in February. Don't go through this challenging period alone. Attend an event and find out what resources are available and to gather ideas and strategies to help your businesses recover as quickly as possible. Calling all local businesses and contractors

The NSW Government would like to hear from any local businesses in regions affected by bush fire that are able to provide goods and services to their community. The NSW Government is establishing a supplier list that covers all kinds of goods or services.

Registration will be easy with just a few simple questions on a portal. Everyone is welcome to apply.

The purpose of this portal is to connect buyers with regional suppliers and vice versa. It assists buyers to give first preference to an appropriate local supplier based in the same region. Any information gathered that is not commercial-in-confidence will be publicly available on the Procure Point website so everyone can access it.

Buyers: If you are a NSW Government buyer (including private hospitals, local councils, non-profit organisations, educational institutes and public authorities), or a private buyer you can use this platform to provide information about your needs and the programs you have carried out of bushfire recovery work.
