Council is upgrading this popular sporting and recreational hub, thanks to assistance from State and Federal
government grants. The changes at Knapsack Park are happening in the following phases:

  • The existing clubhouse is being demolished and a new sealed carpark being constructed.  The carpark was opened on 15 May 2021.
  • Three-bay cricket practice nets are being constructed, along with a mini soccer field.
  • A new fit-for-purpose clubhouse and amenities buildings, an east and west pavilion, will also be built to the north-west of the main playing field.

Council’s commitment to this project is over $1 million. This, coupled with $1.3 million in Federal funding and $750,000 in State government funding, is delivering this major project.

How will the carpark be improved?
The upgraded carpark will be a sealed carpark, providing almost 100 spaces. The carpark will run from Barnet Street, along behind the old clubhouse, in a straight line. This will allow greater space for recreational facilities. The new carpark will improve access and safety at the park.

During peak periods, there is demand for up to 160 parking spaces. While the new carpark will help to minimise
overflow, it is not possible to accommodate these numbers on site, and visitors are still likely to park on adjacent
streets. Council is exploring options for other solutions that will lessen the impact of visiting traffic in the future.

What will the new clubhouse look like?
The new clubhouse and amenities buildings will be built at the site of the existing amenities block. Concept plans
for these new facilities have undergone a detailed design process.  See the designs here

Council has been working with stakeholders to determine the requirements for these facilities.

Will there be accessible features?
A new accessible pathway will be built from the new carpark to the new clubhouse and amenities building.

The new clubhouse will also include a unisex accessible toilet.
