Call for Expression of Interest: Living Lanes Katoomba

12 Feb 2021

Living Lanes is a visual arts project that aims to create a series of new contemporary art installations revitalising five laneways in Katoomba’s town centre.

An Expression of Interest is now open for Western Sydney artists to submit artwork proposals that engage and inspire visitors and locals alike.
Artists are encouraged to consider 3D relief, kinetic, interactive, tactile and sensory experiences. Up to $20,000 is provided to each artist for the total cost of production and installation.

Developed in partnership between Blue Mountains City Council and Toolo, the Blue Mountains Tool Library, the project has been funded through the Bushfire Recovery Agency and Austrade.

Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill said: “Blue Mountains City Council is committed to strengthening the liveability and vibrancy of our towns and villages. This project offers a fantastic opportunity for visual artists in our region and will attract many visitors to Katoomba.”

The Blue Mountains is the state’s inaugural City of the Arts and the Living Lanes project continues this vision. It aspires to highlight for visitors and residents a lively and vibrant township that is representative of the diverse artistic community within Greater Western Sydney.

Director of Toolo, Justin Morrissey, invited artists to submit their most ambitious ideas. “Toolo aims to provide high calibre opportunities for artists in our region,” he said. “The laneways of Katoomba are like the arteries of our town, they are quirky and interesting spaces ideal for artistic interventions.”

Submission requirements for artists:
● Expressions of Interest can be made through the online portal at https://www.livinglanes.art
● Artists must include a project description with conceptual visuals and examples.
● Expressions of Interest close 5pm Wednesday, 31 March 2021.

This project is receiving funding through the Regional Tourism Bushfire Recovery grants program, an Australian Government bushfire recovery initiative.
